Alberta R. Gardner
Alberta R. Gardner, age 92, of Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, June 11, 2006 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.
She was born May 23, 1914 near Revere, MO, a daughter of Arthur Wilbur and Dollie Mae Rosencrans Parsons.
She married William Richard Gardner on December 20, 1932 in Kahoka. He preceded her in death in August of 1989.
Survivors include a son, Bill Gardner and his wife, Paula, of Jacksonville, FL; five daughters, Dorthea Mathies and her husband, Lee, Sharon Bergman and her husband, Dennis, and Joanne Shaw and her husband, Michael, all of Kahoka, MO,Willa Doty and her husband, Herb, of Revere, MO, and Marilyn Boice and her husband, Everett, of Neosha, MO; a daughter-in-law, Delora Gardner of Kahoka, MO; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Wells and Alice Parsons, both of Kahoka, MO, Juanita Parsons of Columbus, GA, Frances Egan and her husband, Jim, of Ventura, CA, and Louise Parsons of Silver Springs, MD; 29 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Donald Gardner; three grandchildren, Randy Yates, Carol Renee Gardner, and Robert Doty; a great grandchild, Brandon Joseph Doty; seven brothers: Hilburn, Raleigh, Vernon, Ray, Joe, Ed, and Leo Parsons; and, three sisters, Marguerite Barry, Mildred Haffernan, and, Nola Parsons.
Coming from a large family, Alberta learned to cook at an early age and was an excellent cook. For many years she cooked at the former Morgan Oil and Restaurant in Alexandria and later at the Revere School until retiring. She was a member of the Kahoka Christian Church and many years was a volunteer at the Clark Co. Nursing Home, sewing and mending for residents and helping with bingo. She loved to quilt, making quilts for her many family members. She loved to play cards, put in a large garden with many flowers, and enjoyed being around people and traveling. Most of all, she loved time spent with her family.
Funeral services are Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kahoka Christian Church with Rev. Dick Clifford officiating.
Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Kahoka Christian Church or the Clark Co. Nursing Home.
