ALLEN LEE HOLMES
Allen Lee Holmes, age 55, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, MO, due to an acute illness.
He was born June 23, 1950, in Keokuk, IA, a son of Eston A. and Neta Mae Spurgeon Holmes.
On June 17, 1999, he was united in marriage to Ida C. Groves Parrish in Kahoka.
Survivors include his wife, Ida C. Holmes, of Kahoka, MO; his mother, Neta Mae Holmes of Jefferson City, MO; one brother, James S. Holmes and his wife, Mary Anne (Kavanagh) Holmes of Jefferson City, MO; their daughters, Tami S. Waldron and her husband, John, of St. Louis, MO, and Michele A. Holmes of St. Louis, MO; an aunt, Blanche Holmes of Keokuk, IA; his wife's children: John Parrish and his wife, Patty, of Copperascove, TX, Jim Parrish and his wife, Becky, of Lebanon, MO, Joyce Burt and her husband, Michael, of Donnellson, IA, Johanna Boatman and her husband, Jeff, of Keokuk, IA; an additional step-daughter, Lonnette Sutterfield and her husband, Jim, of Kahoka, MO; step-grandchildren: Jesse, Jimmy, and Jericho Parrish, Christopher, Brandon, and Teresa Parrish, Michaela Burt, Jonathan and Wyatt Page, Stephen Boatman, and, Jessie, Destiny and Justin Sutterfield; several first cousins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eston A. Holmes on July 16, 1998; and grandparents: Burgle and Barbara Holmes and Ed and Cynthia Spurgeon.
Allen graduated from Kahoka High School in 1968. He was in the U. S. Army from
August of 1969 to August of 1971 attaining the rank of Specialist E-5 and spent one tour in Vietnam.
He worked in the masonry and roofing business for many years until he became disabled due to a service related injury. He was a life-time member of the D. A. V. and of Ayer-Boatman Post # 4342, V.F.W.
He enjoyed John Wayne movies and especially liked the game of euchre.
Funeral services are Friday, December 30, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee and Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Burial and full military rites will be in Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends can call after 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the V. A. Home in Mexico, MO.
