ARLIE PRESTON SHANNON, JR.

Arlie Preston Shannon, Jr., age 80, of Kahoka, MO passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at his home.

Arlie was born December 28, 1937 in Barren Hollow, AR, a son of Arlie Preston and Ruth Sutterfield Shannon.

Arlie graduated from high school in Marshall, AR and then entered the Army National Guard in Little Rock.

He was united in marriage to Lovie House on November 1, 1958 in Marshall, AR, and they were looking forward to celebrating 60 years of marriage this year.

Survivors include his wife, Lovie P. Shannon, of the home; five children: Randy "Ras" Shannon, Danny "Boone" Shannon, Tammy Shannon (Loyd McCluskey), all of Kahoka, Todd (Jamie) Shannon of Williamstown, and Matt (Denise) Shannon of Kahoka; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dovie Passmore and Georgie Sutterfield, both of Kahoka; as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, William and Vada Tackett House; sisters: Leo, Betty, Lois and Louise; several brothers-in-law; and a son-in-law, Kevin "Pone" O’Day.

Arlie was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Wayland. He was a drywaller all of his life and taught his sons the trade. He was very good at what he did and his workmanship was very valued and respected. He loved to hunt deer and coon and spend time fishing. Arlie always put in a large garden big enough to feed the family. He was well known for telling stories and jokes and had a "quick wit" about him. More valued to him than anything was his beautiful wife, his children and family.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 25, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.
