BERNARD JOSEPH WISS, JR.

Bernard Joseph Wiss, Jr., age 82, of Kahoka, MO, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 13, 2009, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

He was born November 23, 1926, in Kahoka, MO, the son of Hazel A. and Bernard J. Wiss, Sr.

On September 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Turpin in Kahoka.

Survivors include his wife, Ann, of Kahoka, MO; five children: Kathy (Stanley) Welker of Kahoka, MO, Jennifer (David) Riney of Kahoka, MO; Mary (Todd) Drennan of Colorado Springs, CO, Teresa McKerrow of Columbia, MO, and Greg (Veronica) Wiss of Dallas, TX;

grandchildren: Matthew (Casie) Riney, Stephanie (Bert) Slater, Peter (Kristin) Riney, Amanda Welker, Sarah (Jacob) Wright, Rachel Riney, Patrick Drennan, Sara McKerrow, Christian Denning, Thomas Drennan, and Ashley Denning; great-grandchildren: Emmalee and Cole Riney, Alexandra Riney, and Sophia Slater. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Geneva Marty of Warrenton, MO, Mildred (Ted) Bogener of Livermore, CA, and Erma (Bill) Wilkinson of Northridge, CA; a brother-in-law, Russell (Beulah) Turpin of Edina, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Omer and Emma Turpin; his sister, Mary Francis Curley; and brother-in-law, Robert Curley.

Jr. graduated from Kahoka High School in 1944. He served in the U. S. Army in Germany. Following his discharge, he attended Gem City Business College in Quincy.

He owned and operated Wiss & Wiss Equipment for 40 years in Kahoka. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He previously served on the Clark Co. School Board and was a former director of the Allegiant Bank Board. Following his retirement, he was a farm appraiser for the bank. One of his greatest privileges was serving his customers and the community.

He had a great love for horses and owned them throughout most of his life. As long as his health permitted, he loved playing golf.

His greatest joys in life were long drives to the farm and spending time with his family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kahoka with Father Paul Hartley officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested to the Kahoka Cemetery or the American Stroke Assocation.
