BETTIE L. NICHOLS
Bettie L. Nichols, age 82, of Kahoka, MO, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Bettie was born June 16, 1930 at Revere, MO, a daughter of Lawrence and Hazel Courtney Brewer.
She married Harold V. Gray and they were the parents of Connie, Nancy, and Shelly. She later married Vaden Gutting and they were the parents of Chuck. She then married Floyd Nichols who preceded her in death on November 2, 1999.
Survivors include a son, Chuck (Jessica) Gutting of Clayton, IL; three daughters,
Connie (Mrs Ronnie) Fulkerson of Wynne, AR, Nancy (Mrs. Tom) McAndrew of Drakesville, IA, and Shelly (Mrs. Gary) Wood of Arbela, MO; step-children: Connie Bertelli, Vaden "Bud" (Deborah) Gutting and Brenda Gutting, all of Quincy, IL, Sherri (Mrs. Gregg) Brunk of Kahoka, MO, Terrisa (Mrs. Kevin) Yates of Revere, MO, and Chuck (Tracy) Nichols of Kahoka, MO;
grandchildren: Eric, Kim and Steve Mayer of Kahoka, MO, Shiloh and Shannon Schmid, both of Columbia, MO, Dustin (Kristy) Wood of Memphis, MO, Talia (Mrs. Nic) Hatfield of Memphis, MO, Morgan (Mrs. Matt) Small of Arbela, MO, Jared Gutting English of Kahoka, MO, Katie Bennett and Jaden Gutting, both of Clayton, IL, and Shane (Shannon) Wood of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandchildren: Tasha and Taylar Eggleston-Wood of Arbela, MO, Elias and Colin Hatfield of Memphis, MO, Riley, Kendall and Elsie Small of Arbela, MO, and Emily Gallup and Abby and Dakota Wood all of Phoenix, AZ; several step grandchildren and their families; brothers and sister: Richard (Donna) Brewer, Opal (Mrs. Carroll) Nixon, Duane (Barb) Brewer, all of Kahoka, MO; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Norma Brewer of Kahoka, MO and Vada and Delbert Bergman of Burnside, IL; as well as nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; an infant great-grandson; a sister in infancy; a brother, Romaine Brewer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Alberta "Bertie" Brewer, Juanita and Shannon "Buzz" Busby, Venita and Eddie Merrick, Lowell and Marie Nichols, Dutch and Louise Nichols and Carmon and Lisa Nichols.
Bettie graduated from Revere High School and had been raised in the Christian faith. She worked at Drydens in Keokuk and at the G&W Garage when she was married to Vaden. For 25 years she was an employee of the Clark Co. Nursing Home.
Bettie enjoyed crafting and made many Christmas ornaments for her family and friends. She and Floyd had been active participants of the Kahoka Lion's Club. She was a member of the "Betty Club" and enjoyed getting together with her Betty friends. She really loved helping her sister, Opal, with the activities at the nursing home and in the past year loved watching the birds at the home.
Her main love was spending time with her children, step-children and their families and her siblings and extended family.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Marie Paterik officiating.
Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Memorials were suggested to the Clark Co. Nursing Home Activity Fund.
