Betty Jean Denham, age 80, of Kahoka, MO, passed away Friday, January 2, 2009, at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born September 4, 1928, the daughter of Herbert and Bertha Hess Dinger.

On July 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gerald Denham. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2004.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Denham and his wife, Teresa, of Kahoka; one grandson, Cory Denham and his wife, Monique, of Marengo, IA; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Nick Denham of Marengo, IA; a brother, Don Dinger and his wife, Linda, of Winter Haven, FL; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Al Pasiuk of Southgate, MI, and Eunice Buford and Ruth Denham of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Nick Denham in 1988; and two sisters, Mary Pasiuk and Amy Dinger.

Betty graduated from Kahoka High School. She was a lifetime member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka and long-time Sunday greeter. She and Gerald owned the skating rink in Kahoka from 1957 until 1966 and enjoyed going out dancing together on weekends. She retired from the Exchange Bank following 30 years of employment. First of all, she was a farm wife, mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She loved people and made it her mission to send cards to family and friends on whatever occasion. It was a joke with her family that her address book was as thick as her Bible. She lived her faith and stressed to her family daily the importance of living by the Golden Rule and praying the Serenity Prayer. Today she is with the rest of her beloved family and her Lord and Savior.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers were suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
