BETTY J. WOOD
Betty J. Wood, age 67, of rural Alexandria, MO, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at her home.
She was born August 23, 1938 in Keokuk, IA, a daughter of George and Beatrice Land Ellis.
On November 4, 1957, she was united in marriage to Hugh L. "Sparky" Wood, Jr. in
Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2004.
Survivors include: four sons: Gorden L. Wood of Alexandria, MO, David Wood of Elmwood, IL, Steven Wood and his wife, Mary, of Kahoka, MO, and Kevin Wood and his wife, Debbie, of Green Bay, WI; two daughters, Nancy Shelton of Kahoka, MO, and Gaylene Wood of Alexandria, MO; two brothers, George Ellis and his wife, Sandra, of Wayland, MO, and Ron Ellis and his wife, Margaret, of Independence, MO; six sisters: Lurena Knopp of Maryland Heights, MO, Carlyn Clark of Blue Springs, MO, Jacklyn Charlton and her friend, Jimmy Rickey, of Shelbina, MO, Patricia and Leroy Chaknine of Keokuk, IA, Grace and Roland Vorwaldt of Keokuk, IA, and Jody and Allen Hughson of Hannibal, MO; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joy and Bill Stevenson of Kahoka, MO; three aunts, Mary Lou Land of Silvis, IL, Beverly McIntyre of East Moline, IL, and Joy Blackwell of Keokuk, IA; thirteen grandchildren: Susan and Sarah Wood of Macomb, IL, Zachary, Christina and Madison Wood of Kahoka, MO, Eric, Gabriel, Matthew and Andrew Wood of Green Bay, WI, Gorden Wood, Jr. and Joseph, Jonathan, and Elizabeth Shelton, all of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Ellis, mother, Beatrice Callsen; her husband; a son, Hugh L. "Spike" Wood, III; and a step-sister, Marian Gann.
Betty worked at Shellor Globe in Keokuk for 25 years before retiring. After that, she worked at various restaurants, retirement homes and also at Ayerco. She enjoyed caring for her flowers, listening to music, and playing solitare. She loved being at home but enjoyed short trips through the area, visiting local sites. When her health was better, she loved to quilt and crochet. More than anything, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her pets. She loved attending as many of her grandchildren's activities as possible.
Funeral services are Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. George LeMaster officiating. Cremation will follow with private graveside services in Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
