Beverly "Sis" Barrows

Beverly "Sis" Barrows, 92, of Revere, Missouri, passed away at her home at 10:33 pm on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Bev was born December 23, 1931, in Leonore, IL, the daughter of Clell A. Gutting and Mary Virginia (Trevor) Gutting. 

Bev was a 1950 graduate of Kahoka High School. She married the love of her life Roland Guy Barrows, on one of the hottest days on July 6, 1952, at the Kahoka Christian Church in Kahoka, MO., and he survives. She was a faithful member of the Peaksville Church. Bev was also a 50+ member of The Order of Eastern Star. 

Bev and Guy were full partners for over 50 years of farming but their cattle herd was the prime center of their farm. Bev didn’t sit idle as you would find her working in the yard, feeding the cattle, in the vegetable or flower garden, driving the truck, running errands for parts, and fixing a meal for anybody that was hungry. She also spent countless hours canning and freezing the summer garden vegetables for her family to enjoy all year long. 

Bev was a huge card shark. She looked forward to the fellowship of getting together with her friends for a good card game of bridge or pitch. Bev was also a big fan of the Cardinals, Chiefs and March Madness. For over 20 years Bev and Guy held large family reunions at their farm. Bev’s door was always open. They had a daily punctual social hour on their deck for themselves and any family or friends that wanted to stop by. They had a special spot by the pond named “Villa Costalotta” for many fun activities, sharing stories and making memories. Her grandchildren knew they had the best version of her. She made each of them feel special, loved, and valued in everything they were involved in. She understood just how fast they would grow. Bev had a spunky personality and a down-to-earth wholesome heart. Bev treasured family and friends most of all.

Bev is survived by her husband Guy of over 72 years, her son: Gary (Jerri) Barrows of Hoffman Estate, IL., 1 daughter: Gayla (Kirk) Huckey of Revere, MO., 1 daughter-in-law: Teresa Barrows of St James, MO., 1 sister: Joanne (Bill) Ragan of Kahoka, MO., 6 grandchildren: Brooke (Russell) Poos, Emily (Lacy) Huckey, Adam (Jessie) Huckey, Andrew (Hunter) Huckey, T.J. Herron, Tessa (John) Cates. 6 Great Grandchildren: Kolbe, Riggs, Brant, Leigha, Ada, Kase and a great grandchild due mid-October. She is also survived by other relatives and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Clell and Mary Gutting, her in-laws: Levi and Marie Barrows, 1 son: Gregg Barrows who preceded her in death October 28, 2023, and 1 brother and his wife: Bill and Marlys Gutting.
