CAROL LEE AYER

Carol Lee Ayer, age 75, of Kahoka, MO, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at his home.

He was born April 24, 1929 near Bloomfield in Davis County, IA, one of twelve children born to Herley and Lena Moorehead Ayer.

He married Vera M. Powell on May 17, 1968 in Hickory, NC.

Survivors include his wife, Vera M. Ayer of Kahoka, MO; one brother, Alvin E. Ayer of Kahoka, MO; two sisters, Maxine Strickler of Kahoka, MO and Marie Nichols and her husband, Lowell, of Luray, MO; a step father-in-law, Lewis Watts of Hickory, NC; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marion and Sylvia Powell, Mildred Van Dyke, Bobby and Barbara Powell and Betty Berry, all of Hickory, NC;as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Clifford, Harold, Leland, Robert and Herley, Jr.; and three sisters, Madline Bertelli, Marjorie Laws and a sister in infancy.

Carol was raised in the Mt. Sterling area and received his higher education while in the service.

He was a career military man, serving in the Army during the Korean conflict and Viet Nam War. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Kahoka and he farmed north of Luray. He had been an active member of Ayer-Boatman Post # 4342, V.F.W. in Kahoka which was named partly after three of his brothers who died while in service to their country. He was also a member of St. Francisville Lodge # 588, A.F. & A.M.

When his military career ended, Carol loved the time spent farming and also caring for his yard. He also enjoyed fishing and the fellowship and playing cards at the V.F.W. He was concerned for his family and always saw to their needs.

Funeral services are Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Ilene and Larry Howell officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery with full military rites.

Friends can call after 4 p.m. on Friday with a public masonic service being conducted at 5 p.m. followed by family receiving friends until 7 p.m.
