CHARLES BRUCE BORTON
Charles Bruce Borton, age 56, of Davenport, IA, passed away peacefully though unexpectedly of natural causes on December 1, 2005 at his residence. He had been in declining health for several years.
An avid political historian, European culturalist and reader, Mr. Borton was preceded in death by his parents, Marion E. and Blanche M. Borton, his brother, Brett Daniel Dailey Borton; and brother-in-law, Dan Ladwig. He is survived by his son, Charles Ellis Borton Smith of Richmond, VA; his three sisters, JonAnn Ladwig, of Kirksville, MO, Sameta (Mrs. John) Kemp of Washington, D.C., and Rickie Beth (Mrs. Scott) Hodges of Circleville, OH;
dear family fiend,Earl Wendland, of Davenport, IA; an aunt, Mae Jane (Mrs. Dean) Dubin, also of Davenport, IA; several nieces and nephews; as well as other
relatives.
Born in 1949 in Keokuk, IA, and raised in Kahoka, MO, Mr. Borton attended high school at the elite Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN, graduating in 1967. He was an Indiana all-state boxing champion and football team member. After briefly attending the Universities of Oklahoma and Iowa, he graduated from the University of South Carolina in the early 1973.
He served with distinction in the United States Army rising to the commissioned officer rank of First Lieutenant at the time of his discharge in November, 1971. For his various efforts, then First Lieutenant Borton received the U.S. Army's National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Borton was married previously to Susan Dabney of Richmond, VA and they were the parents of Charles Ellis.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2005 at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with burial and full military rites following in Kahoka Cemetery.
