CHESTER A. YOUNG

Chester A. Young, age 66, of Quincy, IL, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, IA.

Chester was born January 23, 1947, in Keokuk, IA, a son of Chester A. and
Ruby Hodges Young.

He married Rosemary Gibson and they were the parents of two daughters, Judy and Chris. He later married Linda Sheffler and they were the parents of a son, Eddie. Following her death he married Sherry Platt who preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Eddie Young of Keokuk, IA; two daughter, Judy (Mrs. Wayne) Saunders and Chris Young of Keokuk, IA; seven grandchildren: Leslie Young, Cassie Saunders, Elleena Saunders, Emma Young, Brandiee Young, Mya Young and Clarissa Young; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Jo Sluttes and Kadence Beavers; one brother, Wayne (Rhonda) Young of Carthage, IL; two sisters, Sierra (Mrs. Lonnie) Bryant of Keokuk, IA and Onia Hamilton of Excelsior Springs, MO; two aunts, Mel Young and Mary Helm and Richard Gregory, all of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Linda and Sherry; two grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Young and Adrian Ivy Hobb; one brother, Wilson Lee Young; a brother-in-law, Buzz Hamilton; and niece and nephew: Connie Bryant and Dean Bryant.

Chester attended school in Kahoka as well as Keokuk. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. Until his retirement, he was employed at Celotex in Quincy for over thirty years.

As a young boy Chester attended the First Baptist Church in Kahoka and later Faith Assembly of God in Hamilton. As his health deteriorated he found a lot of entertainment in watching TV, particularly war movies, Mash, and the sci-fi channel. Another form of entertainment was texting and playing games on his cell phone. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services with military rites, was held Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Kahoka Cemetery with Pastor Phil Kimball officiating. There was no visitation.
