Clara McMann

Clara M. McMann, 81, of Kahoka, passed away unexpectedly at 4:55 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born on April 12, 1941, in Hurdland, Missouri, the daughter of the late Clarence & Lucille (Novinger) Powell. After Clara graduated from High School in Atlanta, Missouri, she married Billie Arnold McMann on March 30, 1958, in Novinger, Missouri. Billie preceded her in death on March 27, 2019.

Clara worked for the Clark County Nursing Home as a dietary aide. She was a long-time member of the Lions Club and served as secretary for many years. Clara was of the Christian faith and attended the Trinity Worship Center in Kahoka. She looked forward to her “Secret Sisters Night Out” every month, along with her friends; Donna Washburn and Joan Peek. Clara was an avid reader and had many books. She enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and coloring in coloring books. Clara enjoyed birds of all kinds; especially hummingbirds. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. 

She is survived by three sons; Arnold McMann of Morning Sun, Iowa, Dale (Pam) McMann of Kahoka and Gary McMann of Canton, two daughters; Janie (Roy) Rankin of Kahoka and Cynthia Childress of Osage Beach, bonus daughters; Georgette Billups & DeAnn Harper, two brothers; Charles “Eddie” (Linda) Powell of Novinger, Missouri and Gary Powell of Green Castle, Missouri, nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and by several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by a son in infancy; Clarence McMann, a granddaughter; Clarissa Somers, a great grandson; Kyler Campbell and by two sisters in-law; Marilyn Powell and Julie McMann.

Funeral services honoring Clara’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka. Pastor Kim McNamar will officiate. Interment will follow at the Kahoka City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the funeral home.
