DARLENE NOLTE HORTER DEBRACKELEIRE
Darlene Nolte Horter DeBrackeleire, age 50, of Kahoka, MO, died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA, where she had been a patient the past month.
She was born January 28, 1958, in Peoria, IL, a daughter of William and Grace Gauwitz Nolte.
She had been married to Jim Horter and they were the parents of two children, Ashley and Quentin. On July 9, 2006, she was united in marriage to Ray DeBrackeleire.
Survivors include her husband, Ray, of Kahoka, MO; a son, Quentin Horter, of the home; a daughter, Ashley Horter and her fiancé, Steve Smith, of Madison, MO; two stepsons, Ray DeBrackeleire of Coal Valley, IL and Mitchell DeBrackeleire of Rock Island, IL; a step-daughter, Jackie Reyes and her husband, John Hahn, of Rock Island, IL; five grandchildren: Keegan, Erin, Tatiana, Miranda and Kiya; her mother, Grace Nolte of Mt. Sterling, IA; father-in-law, Maurice DeBrackeleire, of Newark, MO; mother-in-law, Barb Chipman of West Point, IA; a sister, Marilyn Wiley and her husband, Glen, of Mt. Sterling, IA; two uncles, Earl Gauwitz of Peoria, IL and Leslie Gauwitz of Spring Bay, IL; three aunts, Lavina Gauwitz of Peoria, IL, Eleanor Koertge of Bloomington, IL and Martha Ackerman of Decatur, IL; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their families, as well as cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.
Darlene attended Luray grade school and graduated from Revere High School in 1976. She furthered her education at the Athena Academy of Beauty Culture in Fairfield, IA and began her career in cosmetology immediately following graduation in 1979 in Keosauqua. She was a cosmetologist most of her adult life and had also been a consultant for Home Interior and Gifts.
She was baptized into the membership of Freedom in Christ church in Kahoka by Pastor Ray Gilbert. She enjoyed motorcyling, playing cards, dominoes, Bejeweled, and never missed an episode of Smallville. She loved her pug dogs and more than anything, she loved her family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Ray Gilbert officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Cantril, IA.
Memorials were suggested to the family.
