DAVID F. ALDERTON, SR.

David F. Alderton, Sr., age 63, of Kahoka, MO, President and Chairman of the Board of Peoples Bank of Wyaconda and Kahoka, died Saturday, January 14, 2006, in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

He was born December 19, 1942, in Kirksville, MO, the son of Daniel Clayton and Iva Mae Shulse Alderton.

He married Carol Harper Kirchner on February 6, 1991, at Kirksville, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Kahoka; father-in-law, Gerald Harper of Kahoka; sons, David F. Alderton, Jr. of Gorin, Brian Alderton and his wife, Billy Jo, of Kahoka, Nathan and Justin Alderton of Kahoka, Josh Kirchner of Springfield, MO, and Adam Kirchner of Kahoka; three grandchildren: Skyler Alderton of Gorin and Zachary and Briana Mae Alderton of Kahoka; a brother,Larry Alderton and his wife, Lynn, of Wyaconda; a sister, Ruth Ann Lawson and her husband, Louis, of Oskaloosa, IA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wanda and Larry Little, Dale Harper, Larry and Robin Harper, and DeeAnn Harper, all of Kahoka; two aunts, Edna Mae Kapfer of Mesa, AZ and Marjorie Alderton of Wyaconda; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Alberta Harper.

David graduated from Wyaconda High School in 1960. He was awarded a basketball scholarship to Central Methodist College and pitched for the baseball team. During that time he was initiated into Alpha Phi Gamma and received his Bachelor of Science Degree on July 31, 1964. He received his Master of Arts from Northeast Mo. State Teacher's College on August 10 1967, and had been initiated into Phi Delta Kappa on July 27, 1967. Following his graduation, he began teaching at Revere High School where he also coached basketball. From 1966 until 1976, he was guidance counselor and coach at Harmony High School. In 1976, he joined the family business, Peoples Bank of Wyaconda, and in 1982 became the President and Chairman of the Board. He was also Chairman of the Board of Community Bank in Memphis and had served on various MBA committees through the years and also on the Mark Twain Mental Health Board since the mid 1980's. David loved going to work at the bank. It was not a job, but a way of life and it made him feel good to be able to help others. He believed in treating everyone the way he would want to be treated. He was strong in his faith and loved the Lord.

He was a member of the Wyaconda Baptist Church and also attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka. He was also a member of St. Francsiville Lodge # 588, A.F. and A.M.

David enjoyed farming and hunting, and just sitting out in the woods where he could get away and think. He loved his family and was an avid supporter of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.

Funeral services are Thursday, January 19, 2006, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann and Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Eulogist will be Mr. Paul O'Day. Burial will follow in the Wyaconda Cemetery.

Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. on Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
