DEVIN B. KONICHEK

Devin B. Konichek, age 17, of Kahoka, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy following a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday near Kahoka. At his passing, and at Devin’s request, his organs were harvested by the Gift of Hope. His lungs have already given a 15 year old new life and his kidney was received by a 10 year old. As he passed, he gave the opportunity to many others who might not have had hope.

Devin was born September 30, 2000 in Prairie du Chein, WI, a son of John V. and Kelly Destival Konichek.

He was currently an honor roll student at Clark Co. R-1 High school, a member of the Junior class.

Devin is survived by his parents: Kelly and Justin Bartels of Kahoka and John Konichek of Prairie du Chein, WI; his grandparents: Treva Destival of Oelwein, IA, John and Linda Konichek of Fennimore, WI, Delma and Chris Smith of Kahoka, and Rex Bartels of Medill; a brother, Cameron Konichek of Wayland; step-sisters, Riley and Layna Bartels of Kahoka; half brothers and sisters: Brandon Konichek, Caleb Oldfather, and Hailey, Austin, Eli and Emily Konichek; aunts and uncles: Janel Destival (Doug) of Minnesota, Brenda (Walt) Ready of Prairie du Chein, WI, Kim (Aaron) Maag of South Dakota, Dana (Cory) Beardmore of Fennimore, WI, Tabitha (Keith) Ball of Kahoka; step-aunts, Jaime Smith of Urbana, IL and Ashley Smith of Burlington; as well as great aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives, and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Wayne Destival.

Devin was employed by Wood Builders in Kahoka and previously worked for Sam Redding. He wasn’t afraid of work and took instructions well. He had a disposition that made him get along well with others.

Devin loved his family and wrestling and messing around with them. He was good with little kids, especially Riley and Layna. He loved to deer hunt, fish, play poker and take money from everyone. His greatest passion was video games and Batman. He listened to music all of the time, regardless of the type. He had a strong faith and attended youth group and Amazing Grace Church. His favorite pastime in the past year and four months was spending time with the love of his life, Sophronia Hager, whom they had recently found out will be giving birth to their child in December.
