Dorothy Fountain

Dorothy Marie Fountain, age 83, of Kahoka, MO, died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

She was born May 7, 1921 in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Vernie J. and Lola Clifton Fry.

She married Raymond J. Fountain on November 9, 1940 and he preceded her in death in March of 2002.

She is survived by three children, Sharon E. McRobert and husband Bill of Memphis, MO, Carl A. Fountain and wife Judy of Boonville, MO, and Vernie R. Fountain and wife Joy of Springfield, MO; 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; as well as a brother, Bill Fry and wife Betty of Kahoka, MO; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Oneta Dray; and, four

brothers, Kenneth, Brenton, Roy, and Cecil Fry.

She was a former member of the Christian Church in Wyaconda and was a member of the Broadway Christian Church in Columbia, MO.

Early in her adult life she coached women's basketball in Wyaconda, Memphis, and Cromwell, IA. Later she worked as secretary to the Principal (her husband, Raymond) at the North Elementary School in Memphis and again as his secretary at Hatton-McCredie Elementary in Auxvasse, MO. Following Raymond's retirement, the couple worked for the State of MO - Dorothy working in the Missouri Department of Revenue at Jefferson City. Following retirement from the State, she and Raymond were employed as Superintendent of the Columbia Cemetery, Columbia, MO for 15 years until Raymond's health began to fail.

Following Raymond's death, and suffering from Alzheimer's disease, Dorothy began living at the Clark Co. Residential Care Center and later at the Scotland Co. Care Center. Dorothy enjoyed reading her Bible, reading poetry, listening to country and gospel music, and doing volunteer work.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Special music was recording by Anne Murray,

"Could I Have This Dance" and instrumental solo by Kathy Wilson, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand".

Burial was in Kahoka Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held on Monday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials were suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Scotland Co. Care Center.
