Dorthea Mathies

Dorthea Ruth Mathies, 89, of Kahoka, Missouri, formerly of Revere, passed away at 8:10am, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

She was born September 3, 1935, north of Peaksville, MO. The daughter of William Richard and Alberta (Parsons) Gardner. On December 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Raymond Lee Mathies, and to this union 3 sons were born, Raymond preceded her in death on March 4, 2022.

Dorthea was a member of the Peaksville Church. She was a 1953 graduate from Revere High School, she later furthered her education and took business courses. Dorthea started as a secretary for R & K Martin, she then worked for Daniel Chevrolet and later for Martin Appliance. She was hired as a teller for Palmyra Savings Bldg. associates and then became the Branch Officer. Dorthea enjoyed her career, and her co-workers. Dorthea loved cats, was an avid NASCAR fan, always had a big garden, and looked forward to car rides, family reunions and being with her family. Dorthea had a loving and caring heart.

Dorthea is survived by her sons: Rick Mathies of Kahoka, MO., Steve Mathies of Kahoka, MO., Doug (Sherry) Mathies of Atlanta Beach, FL., granddaughter: Jamie (Kenneth) Craig of Atlanta Beach, FL., great granddaughters: Katelyn and Kylie Craig of Atlanta Beach, FL., her sisters: JoAnne Shaw of Kahoka, MO., Willa Doty of Kahoka, MO., sister-in-law: Paula Gardner of Jacksonville, FL., brother-in-law: Dennis (Zarina) Bergman of Kahoka, MO., a special cousin: Susie Boggs, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her in-laws: Raymond and Eloise (Ball) Mathies, a grandson: Aaron Mathies, her brothers: Donald and his wife (Delora) Gardner, William “Bill” Gardner, her sisters: Sharon Bergman, Marilyn Boice, brother-in laws: Michael Shaw, Herb Doty and Everett Boice, Gene Yates, nephews: Rob Doty, Jim Gardner, Eric Doty, Tony Bergman, Randy Yates and a nieces Gina Wagner and Carol Gardner in infancy.

Graveside services for Dorthea Mathies will be held at Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, MO., Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Visitation with family present will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO. Memorial contributions in memory of Dorthea are suggested to the family.
