Edna V. Smith
Edna Virginia Smith, age 71, of Bonaparte, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 in Van Buren Co. Hospital in Keosauqua, IA.
She was born October 12, 1932 at Kahoka, MO, a daughter of Edgar and Bertha Moore Gregory.
She was married to Robert E. Poole and they were the parents of five children. She later married Herman D. Smith and they were the parents of six children. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include ten sons: Ronnie L. and Trisha Poole of Virginia Beach, VA, Donnie E. and Cecelia Poole of Farmington, IA, Robert R. Poole of Mt. Sterling, IA, Larry W. Poole of Bonaparte, IA, Chad D. and Cindy Smith of Kahoka, MO, Brad C. Smith of Mt. Sterling, IA, Charles D. and Kelly Smith of Mt. Sterling, IA, John E. and Kim Smith of Bonaparte, IA, William J. Smith of Oklahoma City, OK, and Roger D. and Tina Smith of Farmington, IA; two daughters, Virginia K. and Bill Glaha of Englewood, CO and Linda I. Miller of Edgewood, MD; two brothers, Hurley and Gloria Gregory of West Point, IA and Bob and Babe Gregory of Memphis, MO; one sister, Margaret and Kenneth Peak of Washington, IL; special friend, J. R. Kinkaid of Bonaparte, IA; 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman Smith; and three half brothers, Dick, John, and Dee Gregory.
Edna graduated from Kahoka High School and had the distinction of having perfect attendance all 12 years. She had been employed at the former Dryden's in Keokuk and later worked at Metromail in Mt. Pleasant until her retirement.
She loved to sew and fish and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren
and great grandchildren. The past three years she received respiratory therapy three times a week and looked forward to it because of the wonderful friendships she made while there.
Funeral services are Sunday, May 30, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Lance Perry officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends can call after 10 a.m. on Sunday with family receiving friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Bonaparte First Responders or
Farmington E.M.S.
