Betty McGuinness

Betty McGuinness, 101, of Kahoka, passed away at 1:30 pm on Monday, November 14,
2022, at Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

She was born on July 20, 1921, in Revere, the daughter of the late Harve & Effie
(Horton) Edlen. Betty married James McGuinness on September 23, 1939, and he
preceded her in death on November 29, 1994.

Betty enjoyed sewing and quilting; she especially liked to make quilts for her
grandchildren. She enjoyed making people laugh, she loved her family, especially her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty loved to play cards and she would often
mention that she was a “D**n good Euchre player”.

Betty is survived by her son; James Wayne (Barbara Ann) McGuinness of Charleston,
South Carolina, her daughter; Betty Salyers of Kahoka, grandchildren; Chuck (Holly)
Salyers of Luray, Teri (James) Neeley of Wickliffe, Kentucky, Jamie (Kenneth) Foster of
Joshua, Texas, Rhonda Sue (Chris) Stringer of Texas, Patricia McGuinness of
Chattanooga, Tennessee and Christy (Joey) Smith of Huntsville, Alabama, great
grandchildren; Brandon (Courtney) Salyers, Megan (Joey Leeper) Salyers, Kelsey
Salyers, Ebonie (Jordan) Hereth, Thomas & James Smith, Hanna (Marty) Seyb, Charli
(Scott) Walters, Breezy (Chase) Drummond, Brennen (Lindsey Koester) Neeley, twenty
one great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Ilda “Chub” Frazier of Saint Louis and
Wanetta (Larry) Saunders of Farmington, Iowa and by several nieces and nephews.

 In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother; Lewis
Edlen, her sisters; Eva Edlen and Wilma Pratt, a son in-law; Charles Salyers, two
brothers in-law; Earl Pratt and Ray Frazier and by a sister in-law; Virginia Edlen.

Funeral services honoring Betty’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday,
November 18, 2022, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home of Kahoka. Pastor Kim
McNamar will officiate. Interment will follow at Kahoka City Cemetery. Visitation will be
held from 10:00 am until the time of services on Friday.

Memorial contributions in memory of Betty are suggested to the Kahoka City Cemetery-Flag Fund or to the charity
