ELMER G. PHILLIPS
Elmer G. Phillips, age 90, of West Point, IA, died July 16, 2011 at the West Point Care Center in West Point.
Elmer was born January 29, 1921 at Corona, South Dakota, a son of Clarence Milo and
Clara Seehafer Phillips.
On April 22, 1955, he was united in marriage to Flossie V. Mikels at Keosauqua, IA.
She preceded him in death on July 16, 2009.
Survivors include a son, Gary Phillips and his wife, Linda, of Selma, IA; one daughter,
Pam Jackson,of Washington, IA; step-children, Carl Grindstaff and his wife, Sandra, of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Nadine A. Hodges and her husband, Paul, of West Point, IA; a brother, Don Phillips of Burlington, IA; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and, eight great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two daughters, Betty Mae Phillips and Paula Nixon, grandson, Michael Hodges; a brother, Melvin Phillips; and a sister Etta Eckey.
Elmer graduated from high school in South Dakota and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II. He worked at the I.A.A.P. in Middletown, IA while farming and together with Flossie, owned and operated the Blue Ribbon Tap for seven years in West Point until selling to her daughter, Nadine, and son-in-law, Paul Hodges.
At Mr. Phillips' request, cremation rites were accorded and there will be no visitation or services.
