ETHEL MAE DUNN

Ethel Mae Dunn, age 98, of Kahoka, MO, died peacefully early Friday morning, February 4, 2011, at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born September 19, 1912 at Keokuk, IA, a daughter of Sampson and Virginia Brammer Eagon.

According to her late husband, Raymond, it was "love at first sight" when he met Ethel and he knew then that she was the woman he wanted to marry. He was twelve and Ethel was ten. Some time later, on February 24, 1930, they were married in Macomb, IL. They were blessed to have celebrated 70 years of marriage prior to his death on July 28, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Jim (Marion) Dunn of Hurst, TX; one daughter, Rebecca (Mrs. Joe) McGraw of Sun Lakes, AZ; sister-in-law, Alice Pitford of Kahoka; ten grandchildren: Brenda Bemis of DesMoines, IA, Kathy Wollam-Myers (Richard) of Kahoka, Bonnie (Gerald) Dieterich of Kahoka, Terry Gesel of Manchester, N.H., Jennifer (Van) Blum of Kahoka, Barton Butler of Mt. Vernon, IL, Jamie Dunn, Ardmore, OK, Jon (Laurinda) Dunn of Arlington, TX, Joel (Mahaty) Dunn of Grand Prairie, TX, and Jeremy (Tera) Dunn of Chicago, IL; 28 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and their families, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Barbara Butler-Price; two sisters, Mary McCoy and Martha Eagon; two grand-children, Jane Porter and Jerome Dunn; one great grandchild, Christopher Wollam; and one great-great grandchild, Francis X. Rawnsley.

She and Ray operated the Clark County Home for several years and later purchased it themselves. In 1955 she had received her LPN in order to enhance her natural nursing skills and provide more advanced care to her patients. She took a couple of years off before she was instrumental in opening the new Clark Co. Nursing Home in 1970. In earlier year she had been a bus driver for the Ashton school district. This was an adventure for a woman in those times, but she loved every minute of it.

Ethel Mae's life was spent caring for people, many who had no one else to care for them. She was a devoted, wife, mother and grandmother. She and Ray were also faithful members of the Kahoka Christian Church. They had a full life together based on mutual love and respect. Together they loved to travel, play cards and go dancing.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kahoka Christian Church with her grandson, Pastor Jon Dunn, officiating. Burial was in the Frazee Cemetery, rural Alexandria.

Memorials were suggested to the Kahoka Christian Church or the Clark Co. Nursing Home

Activity Fund.
