Fredrick Buschling, 70, of Wayland, passed away at 5:43pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at the Clark County Nursing Home.

Fred was born on October 12, 1950, in Keokuk, the son of George Fredrick and Rebecca May (Toops) Buschling.

He was a graduate of Clark County High School in 1969.  Fred married Kathy Laffoon on July 6, 1974, at the Wayland Methodist Church.

Fred enjoyed listening to old rock and roll music, collecting geodes, watching NASCAR, to which he favored Dale Earnhardt, and drawing. He had a variety of old cars and trucks, but his favorite was his 35 Chevy pickup. Fred was a member of the Southeast Iowa Antique Car Club out of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Fred was a handy man, you could find him in his barn working on handmade furniture, his antique automobiles, or in the past, silver jewelry. He and Kathy made many wonderful memories with their families, one that will be held dearly to all is the extended family trip to the World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fred was an avid Wayland Historian, sharing his knowledge with many, including his fellow residents at the nursing home. He will be greatly missed by his Shihpoo, Shophie.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Buschling of Wayland, two sons; Brock (Shelby) Buschling of Kahoka, and Nikolas (Brooke Jenkins) Buschling of Wayland, granddaughters; Kennedy Johnson, Madelyn Johnson, and Kaytelenn Buschling, his mother, Becky Buschling of Wayland, two sisters; Janice Johnson of Wayland, and Tamara (John) Oilar of Kahoka, his mother-in-law, Lula Laffoon of Kahoka, two sister-in-law’s; Cheryl Buschling of Kahoka, and Gretchen (David) Myers of Oak Grove, MO, two brother-in-law’s; Robert (Bev) Laffoon of Wayland and Alan (Beth) Lewis of Kahoka. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Buschling, his father George Fredrick Buschling, one nephew, Jeremy Buschling, one great-niece, Lexie Smith, a brother-in-law, Stuart Johnson, a sister-in-law, Beth Lewis, and his father-in-law, Robert Laffoon.

A visitation was held Friday, April 23, from 6-8 PM at the Wilson and Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka. A funeral service was held Saturday, April 24, at 10 AM at the Wayland Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Sand Cemetery. Pastor Shelby Whitney officiated the service. Pianist was Lynn Summers. Memorials contributions in Fred’s name were suggested to the Wayland Methodist Church and could be sent to the Wilson and Triplett Funeral Home.
