Garry E. Simmons
Garry E. Simmons, age 52, of Kahoka, MO, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at his home.
He was born December 19, 1951 at Kirksville, MO, a son of Forrest Robert and Freda Fetters Simmons.
He married Ruby "Dodie" Young on June 9, 1970 at Kahoka.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of Kahoka, MO; mother, Freda Simmons of Kahoka, MO; mother-in-law, Mary Young Helm of Kahoka, MO; two daughters, Paula Miller and her husband, Charles, Jr., and Pamela Schrepfer and her husband, Mathew, all of Kahoka, MO; four grandchildren, Kayla and Brittani Miller and Sabrina and Seth Schrepfer, all of Kahoka, MO; two brothers, Robert Simmons and his wife, Connie, of Mt. Sterling, IA and twin brother, Larry Simmons and his wife, Joyce, of Farmington, IA; two sisters, Dorothy Gumc and her husband
Richard, of Bethel, MO and Doris Hall of Galena, MO; several aunts and uncles including
Velma Shell of North Carolina and very special friend, Aunt Mel Young; sisters-in-law and
brothers-in-law: Joan and Bill Hayden, Sandra and Bill Ringenburg, Vickie and Donnie Burks,
Evelyn O'Day, Ava Carter, Dianne and Floyd Sommers and Billy and Brenda Young, all of Kahoka, MO and Rita and Vaughn Barry of Alexandria, MO; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law, Vic Young; two nephews, James Simmons and Larry Hayden; and brother-in-laws, Arnold Hall and Vic Young, Jr.
Garry was a 1970 graduate of Harmony High School. The past 30 years he had been employed by St. Louis Gear in Keokuk.
Garry took pride in what he did and wasn't satisfied unless it was perfect. He could fix anything and never had to call a repairmen for his home or any of his vehicles. He wasn't happy unless he was busy and could usually be found working whenever he was awake. In his free time, he loved to hunt and fish, work on vehicles and use his carpentry skills. He cherished his grandchildren and always referred to his grandson, Seth, as his "little buddy" as he was the only boy out of four grandchildren. He was looking forward to taking the grandkids deer hunting the first weekend in November.
Funeral services are Monday, November 1, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dick Clifford officiating. Burial will be in Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends can call after 9 a.m. on Sunday with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established.
