George E. Behnke, 85, passed away at 8:32 am on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, with his family by his side. George was born on January 18, 1939, in Keokuk, IA, to George Edward and Florence D (Fulton) Behnke. He was first married to Esther Brammer, and to this union 3 sons were born Jim, Mike, and Jeff. He later married Jean (Malone) Behnke on December 29, 1984, at the Kahoka Christian Church and with this union 5 more children were joined in the family, Raymond, Gary, Barbara, Terri and Tina.
George graduated from Kahoka High School in 1957. He was a member of the Peaksville church and attended regularly if his health permitted. George was an Agriculture specialist for MFA Inc from 1974 until he retired in 2004, he appreciated the friendships he made over the years working there. George was an outdoorsman, he like to deer hunt, put in a large vegetable garden, planted flowers which his specialty was Iris and white Lilys. He loved his Black Angus and Short Horn cattle. George looked forward in showing young kids how to care for their cattle. George loved family gatherings and being able to teach and share stories with his family about cattle.
George is survived by his 3 sons: Jim (Deloris) Behnke of Kahoka, MO., Mike (Kim Modlin) Behnke of Navarra, FL., Jeff (Dianne) Behnke of Kahoka, MO., 2 additional sons: Raymond (Ina) Beall of Jacksonville, Fl., Gary (Jacquie) Beall of Mt Sterling, IA., 3 additional daughters: Barbara (Ron) Bryant of Keokuk, IA., Terri (Randy) Visser of Redman, OR., Tina (Bob LeMaster) Garrett of Kahoka, MO., 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother: James Behnke
Funeral Services for George Behnke will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Peaksville Christian Church, with burial at the Kahoka Cemetery. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the Wilson Triplett Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with family present from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
Memorials contribution in memory of George Behnke are suggested to the Clark County Junior Livestock Committee.
