Gerald Leroy "Inky" Curfman

Gerald Leroy "Inky" Curfman, age 74, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Alexandria, MO, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.

Inky was born October 9, 1944 in Keokuk, a son of Maurice and Mildred Scobee Curfman. Following his mother’s death, he and his siblings were raised by their grandma, Gladys "Ma" Scobee.

Inky was raised in the Alexandria area. He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant until moving to Des Moines. In Des Moines, he was employed in maintenance at the Capitol Building for most of his adult life and retired from the Prairie Meadows Casino. Inky worked hard, rarely missing a day of work.

He married Sandra Ferrick on February 20, 1982. They were faithful members of the Capitol Hill Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy, of Des Moines; a brother, Buck Curfman, and sister, Connie Gregory, both of Alexandria, MO; nieces and nephews and their families: Casie (Matthew) Riney, Tate Curfman, Lori (Tim) Smith, and Troy (Paula) Gregory; as well as cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Ma Scobee; brother-in-law, Donnie Gregory; sister-in-law, Sandy Curfman; and nephew, Taggart Curfman.

Inky loved to play pool with family and friends. He was a huge "Elvis" fan, devoting an entire room to his memorabilia. He never missed the Iowa State Fair and would dress as Elvis each year at one of their stages and perform. He loved his family dearly.

Graveside services were held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Frazee Cemetery in rural Alexandria with words of comfort by Brother Tim Smith.

The family was served by Wilson Funeral Home.
