Gladys Hardy

Gladys M. Hardy, age 102, of Kahoka, MO, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

Gladys was born April 13, 1910 in Kahoka, one of nine children of Art and Margaret Grinstead Brown.

She married Hiram Louis "Tick" Hardy on August 26, 1932 in Kahoka. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1990.

Survivors include a sister, Esther Fletterer of Quincy, IL; nine nieces and nephews and their families: Alfred (Sheila) Kelly of Marysville, MO, Judy Holland of Coralville, IA, Frank (Marie) Brown of Ewing, MO, Gary Pirotte of Wayland, MO, Joe (Becky) Pirotte of Dallas, TX, Sandra (Mrs. Ralph) Nichols of Williamstown, MO, Margaret Park of Charleston, SC, Robert (Blanche) Hardy of Denmark, IA and Bessie Louise Hardy of Luray, MO; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Luther and Samuel Brown; and five sisters: Grace Kelly, Veva Hoffman, Helen Pirotte, Ruby Flannery, and Rosie Mayer.

In earlier years Gladys had been employed by former Kahoka businesses, Fish Apparel, Ben Franklin and Reitz Fabrics. She was a member of the Kahoka Christian Church, 50-50 Sunday School Class and Christian Women's Fellowship. She loved gardening and was a devoted and long-time fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Although she never had any children of her own, she loved to spoil her nieces and nephews with her delicious cooking and special cookies.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Jim Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday with family receiving friends from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Memorials are suggested to the Clark Co. Ambulance District, the American Asthma Foundation, or the American Heart Association.
