Helen Louise Bailey, age 89, of Troy, MO, formerly of Kahoka, died Saturday,December 27, 2008, at her daughter's home in Troy, MO.

She was born September 13, 1919, in Bladensburg, IA, a daughter of John and Laura

Irwin Carman.

On July 3, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles Bailey in Agency, IA. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1967.

Survivors include a son, Chuck Bailey and his wife, Glenette, of Marshalltown, IA; two daughters, Karen Foust and her husband, Finis, of Ottumwa, IA, and Laura Olmstead and her husband, Randal, of Troy, MO; two daughters-in-law, Lynn Bailey of Kahoka, MO, and Linda Thompson of Decatur, AL; a brother, Keith Carman and his wife, Ruth, of Hollister, MO; sisters-in-law, Berniece Edwards of Burlington, IA, Carol Bailey of Des Moines, IA, and Margaret Heminger of Woodriver, NE; twelve grandchildren: Alicia Hala, Chip and Carrie Bailey, Steve and Rebecca Bailey, Brad and Cambia Bailey,Shannon and Casey Bailey, Brandon Bailey, Daniel Bailey, Tracy and Jeff Hopkins, Janet and Terry Anderson, Kelly and Kent Briscoe, Kristen and Chris Meyers and Kyle Olmstead; eighteen great grand-children: Zane, Caleb and Aubrey Hala, Chaz, Colton, and Caitlin Bailey, Taylor and Savannah Bailey, Kelsey and Jacob Bailey, Ashley and Jackson Bailey, Alyssa Bailey, Haleigh and Jason Skaggs, Mariah and Nataliah Hopkins and Addison Meyers; a great-great granddaughter, Kennedy Skaggs; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Craig and Steve Bailey; a granddaughter, Kimberly Foust; and two brothers, Max and Charlie Jo Carman.

Helen graduated from high school in 1937 in Agency, IA. She owned and operated Bailey's Discount Store north of Kahoka for 20 years and for 25 years was employed by Shellor Globe, retiring at the age of 70.

She was a member of the Kahoka United Methodist Church, a former member of the Kahoka Presbyterian Church and elder for 30 years. She was also a member of the D.A.R. and D.U.V. She was a former Cub Scout and Brownie Leader when her children were small. Following her retirement, she was a volunteer at the Clark Co. Senior Center and enjoyed the fellowship there. She spent a great deal of her retirement in her second home in Hollister, MO,

where she volunteered at The Pink Door which benefitted Skaggs Hospital in Branson. She enjoyed playing cards and games and spending time with friends and family.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial was at 2:30 in Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa, IA.

Memorials in lieu of flowers were suggested to the Clark Co. Senior Center.
