Helen was a 1943 graduate of Wyaconda High School. She was a life-long member of the Fairmont United Methodist Church and since it's closure attended the Wyaconda Baptist Church. She was the pianist at Fairmont and also played at both the Wyaconda Christian and Baptist Churches on different occasions. In addition, she could play the accordian. Helen's faith was a very important part of who she was and how she raised her family.
Helen was a retired employee of MFA, serving as bookkeeper for the surrounding area. She later worked for Ridgely Farm Supply where she also kept books. Helen was a progressive senior citizen who adapted quickly to the computer. Not only was she active in keeping records, keeping contact with friends and family, she was also the "tech" person family members called when having problems.
Helen loved to crochet and each of her great and great-great grandchildren were blessed with afghans made by her as well as many other children in the Fairmont/Wyaconda area. She never made an afghan that wasn't multi-colored. She made many doilies and other items which she shared with friends and family. She looked forward each year to the return of her hummingbirds which she lovingly provided food for and watched them feed. Only second to her faith, was her love for her family.
A Celebration of Helen's Life was fittingly held on what would have been her 90th birthday on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor James Leezer officiating. Special music was performed by Darrin Howell. Pallbearers were Steve Howell, Laura Miller, Kathy Howell, Darrin Howell, Rebecca Green and Cody Miller.
