Helen Isabelle Starr, age 89, of Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, November 6, 2005 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born October 2, 1916 near Kahoka, a daughter of Henry and Susanna Muhrer Plenge.

On November 11, 1945, she was united in marriage to Stuart Starr in Sappington, MO, by her brother-in-law, G. O. Martensen, and to this union two children were born, Sharon Lu and Sandra Lee.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Relph and her husband, James, of Festus, MO; and Sandra Stegner and her husband, John, of Scottsville, VA; one granddaughter, Natalie Relph of Chillicothe, MO; two great grandsons, Skylar and Evan Loucks of Chillicothe, MO; sisters-in-law, Irene Plenge and Violet Plenge, both of Kahoka, MO, and Kathryn Starr of Sumber, SC; brothers-in-law, Rev. Glen O. Martensen of St. Louis, MO and Raymond Starr of Fort Madison, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stuart; two brothers, Harry and Ralph Plenge; and, two sisters, Aileen Martensen and Mary Gregory.

Helen was a graduate of Kahoka High School. In 1931, she was confirmed at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka, where she remained a faithful, active member as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Chancel choir for 30 years and afternoon women's fellowship for many years.

She was a devoted mother and for over 25 years worked side by side with her husband in the Western Auto Store which they owned and operated in Kahoka for 24 years until retiring in 1976.

Funeral services are Friday, November 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.

There will be no visitation, however, friends may register at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the St. Paul United Church of Christ.
