HOWARD VERNON EVERMON
Howard Vernon Evermon, age 90, of Kahoka, MO, died early Thursday, July 26, 2012, in Keokuk Area Hospital.
Howard was born May 18, 1922 at Revere, MO, the 5th of fifteen children born to Everett V. and Esther Kautz Evermon.
On February 14, 1946 he was united in marriage to Geraldine M. Soule by Rev. Monroe in Kahoka.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, of the home; one son, Fred (Vandy) Evermon of Columbia, MO; two daughters, Linda Evermon of Kahoka, MO and JoAn (Mrs. Peter) DiPaola of Royal Palm Beach, FL; four grandchildren: Lisa (Mrs. Roger) Rohrer of Keokuk, IA, LeAnn Baker of Kahoka, MO, Robert (Samantha) Evermon of Altamonte Springs, FL, and Justin (Daniela) Keeling of Royal Palm Beach, FL; six great-grandchildren: Brigitte Rohrer, Caleb and Colt Baker, Adeline and Gabriele Evermon, and Lukas Keeling; one brother, Ernest (Leta) Evermon of Hamilton, IL; five sisters: Zola Marie Brammer of Kahoka, MO, Frances Gregory of Ft. Madison, IA, Mary Lipper of Kahoka, MO, Betty Fox of Revere, MO, and Laura (Mrs. Harold) Webber of Unionville, MO; a sister-in-law, Beulah Jones of Davenport, IA; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings,Roy Evermon and Myrtle Jean Evermon, both in infancy, George Evermon, Vera Mae Shuler, Viola Davis, Pearl Gregory, Mabel Wolf, and Beulah Dobson; and three sisters-in-law, Anita Pullins, Elma Maddox and Viola Kroencke.
Howard attended school in Clark County. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 until 1945. He was a Union Carpenter for Local Union # 410, Fort Madison, as a journeyman carpenter (millwright). He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kahoka and Herman Blum Post # 192 of the American Legion. He had the distinction of being the first veteran from Kahoka to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC on June 10, 2010. He was very dedicated to his country and was honored to pay respect to fellow servicemen and women by faithfully participating in military funeral rites.
Howard loved being out of doors. He loved to put in multiple gardens, as well as mow, including for the City of Kahoka and Kahoka Cemetery for many years, and would walk 4 miles each day until his stroke one year ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Rob Quillin officiating. Burial with full military rites was in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Memorials were suggested to the Kahoka First Baptist Church or the Clark Co. Nursing Home Activity Fund.
