HOWARD E. LAFFOON

Howard Ervin Laffoon, age 81, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at his home following an eight and a half year battle with cancer.

He was born July 6, 1925, at Higdon, AR, a son of Andrew and Violet Hecox Laffoon.

On January 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Deloris Toops in Kahoka, following a courtship which included church dates where he and his brother, Gene, provided the music.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris, of Kahoka, MO; a son, Wayne Laffoon and his wife, Mary Jo, of Alexandria, MO; two daughters, Mary Ellen Lewis and her husband, Mike, of Kahoka, MO, and Teresa Keppel and her husband, Johnnie, of Keokuk, IA; seven grandchildren: Mike Laffoon of Kahoka, MO, Adam Laffoon of Jefferson City, MO, Ben and Ann Laffoon of Jefferson City, MO, Brian and Sara Lewis of Kahoka, MO, Amy Romine of Kahoka, MO, Chastity and Chris Kearns of Montrose, IA, and Lanii Pagel of Peoria, IL; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wendell "Gene" Laffoon and his wife, Mekey, of Lebanon, MO, and Leonard Laffoon and his wife, Betty, of Milan, IL; two sisters-in-law, Mary Toops of St. Francisville, MO and Lula Laffoon of Kahoka, MO; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Pagel; and a brother, Robert Laffoon.

Howard was a retired 35-year employee of Foote Mineral in Keokuk. Following his retirement, he and Deloris loved to winter in Florida and he loved to trout fish in Arkansas. He attended the First Baptist Church in Wayland and for many years served as a board member of the Sand Cemetery. Howard loved to hunt, fish, garden, and spend time with his family. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone.

Funeral services are Friday, April 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Cemetery at St. Francisville.

Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Blessing (Hancock Co.) Hospice or Sand Cemetery.
