Jessie Evalena Heriford, 88, of Kahoka, passed away at 11:05 AM, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Lewis County Nursing Home, in Canton, Missouri, with her loving family by her side.
Jessie was born on June 19, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois to Clarence and Jennie L. (Jones) Whitaker. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Heriford on June 12, 1957, in Palmyra, Missouri and he preceded her in death on September 26, 2007.
Jessie attended school in Marblehead, Illinois. She came from a big family having 12 siblings. In her earlier years she worked for Sheller Globe as a line production and retired from there after 23 years. Jessie liked to keep busy, she worked as a janitor for several years for the Clark County School, and for Steves Family Dining. Jessie looked forward to drinking coffee at Steves and cherished the many friendships she made over that cup of coffee. Jessie was also a member of the Peaksville Church. Jessie with lots of love and time would embroidery, and cross-stitch beautiful quilts for her family for them all to cherish. She looked forward to the season changing so she could plant her garden and share the produce. She was an excellent cook and was always ready with open arms and a big smile for family gatherings.
Jessie is survived by her son David (Brenda) Cottrell of Kahoka, MO, a stepson Joe Heriford of Mexico, MO, a step daughter-in-law Nancy Heriford of Virden, IL, 3 grandchildren Eric (Lexi) Cottrell of Kahoka, MO, Amy (Zach) Geisendorfer of Lewistown, MO, Josh Cottrell of Monticello, MO, 5 great grandchildren Peyton, Logan, Emersyn, Andie, Coy, 9 step grandchildren, a brother George Whitaker of Durham, MO, 2 sisters-in-law Sue Whitaker of Lorraine, IL, Sue Whitaker of Ewing, MO, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, a stepson Bobby Heriford and 11 siblings.
Graveside services for Jessie Evalena Heriford will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, Missouri. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate. Visitation will be held at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Friday, March 28, 2025 from 10:00 am until the time of graveside at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions in memory of Jessie Heriford are suggested to the Lewis County Nursing Home Activity Department, and may be left at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO.
