James C. "Jim" Havens

James C. "Jim" Havens, age 75, of rural Luray, MO, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his home.

Jim was born November 7, 1935 in Fulton County, IL a son of Johnathan Albert and Dorothy Paul Havens.

He was first married to Judy Combites in 1956 and they were the parents of four children. In 1982 he married Yvonne Brock and they were blessed with three children.

Survivors include his children: Julie (Mrs. Jake) Birky of Wyaconda, MO, Owen (Angela) Havens of Quincy, IL, Albert Johnathan Havens of Bossier City, AL, Sonia (Mrs. Kenneth)Havens-Denler of Shreveport, LA, Shelly (Mrs. Rodney, Jr.) Nichols of Luray, MO, James D. Havens of Luray, MO and Cory Havens of Kahoka, MO; seven grandchildren: Jason (Billie) Birky, Derrick and Dakota Havens, Tommy and Dorothy Bindel, and Logan and Carson Nichols; three great-grandchidlren: Nichole, Ashley and Daniel Birky; two sisters, Ruth (Mrs. Delbert) Curtis of Prairie City, IL and Mary (Mrs. Joe) Frances of Bushnell, IL; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim moved to the Luray area in 1959 and there he farmed and nurtured his children and his farm animals. He loved being on the farm and he loved family, especially his grandchildren. He had a sense of humor and a smile and laugh that all who met him remembered. He enjoyed being around people, whether it was spending time at the gambling boat, sale barns, or cafes, where he could visit with friends over a cup of coffee. His greatest treasures were his children and he lives on in each of them.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 23, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Combs Cemetery at Luray.
