John R. Bergman, 74, of Kahoka, passed away at 8:53 am on Friday, February 17, 2023.
He was born on September 2, 1948, in Kahoka the son of the late George & Mildred (Brotherton) Bergman-Nichols. He married Sharon Meyers on June 2, 1969, in Peaksville, MO and she preceded him in death on June 30, 1970. John later married Barbie Lillard on July 10, 1971, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Kahoka. She survives.
John had worked for many years as a Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic Trellex Morse until his retirement in 2004. He had a love for the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, especially duck and turkey hunting, fishing and collecting Native American artifacts.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Barbie, John is survived by his sons; Shawn Bergman of Burlington, Iowa, Tyler (Leigh Ann) Bergman of Hannibal, two grandsons; Logan and Lucas Bergman of Hannibal, two brothers; Dennis (Zarina) Bergman of Kahoka and Bill (Doreen) Bergman of Kahoka, an uncle; Paul (Ruth) Brotherton of Kahoka, six sisters in-law; Elizabeth Montgomery of North Carolina, Ann Smith, Vicky Hudnut, Wanda Wheeler, Brenda Sommers and Tammy Meyers, all of Kahoka, special relatives; John & Antoinette Boehmer of Norwalk, Iowa , Tarey (Hannah) Shoup of Cuba, Vickie (Kevin) Shaffer of Kahoka and a great grand-nephew; Levi Shoup of Cuba.
Besides his parents and his first wife, Sharon, John was preceded in death by his first mother in-law Marie Meyers and second father & mother in-law; Leroy & Ethel Lillard, his stepfather; Floyd Nichols. A sister in-law; Sharon Gardner-Bergman, and a brother & sister in-law’ Linda & Larry Sears and brother in-law Bill Montgomery.
