JOHN ALLEN FOWLER

John Allen Fowler, age 67, of rural Canton, MO, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at his home located at Gregory Landing.

He was born September 14, 1939, at St. Francisville, MO, a son of John Roscoe and Dorothy Maxine Boone Fowler.

He married Kathy Kramer on January 18, 1961, and together they had four daughters. They later divorced.

Survivors include his four daughters: Joyce Fowler and her fiancé, Larry Shafer, of Alexandria, MO, Deb Fowler-Ainsworth and her husband, Terry, of Burlington, IA, Janet Cantonwine and her husband, Randy, of Donnellson, IA, and Angela Callison and her

companion, Carl McKannan of St. Francisville, MO; five grandchildren: Shaun, Mark and Greg Penechar, all attending the University of Missouri at Columbia, MO, Ian Eaves of Fort Madison, IA, and Tyler Callison of St. Francisville, MO; a sister, Dorothy Ann Cowen

of Keokuk, IA; two aunts, Della Radcliffe of Keokuk, IA, and Leta Brooks of Wayland, MO; also other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ernest and Don Fowler.

John was a life-long commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River and was well-known in this capacity around the area. He began fishing on the river with his father as a young boy, at the age of 15 went to work for Jim Kurle at his fish market in Burlington and later began his own business. He spent the winter months as a commercial trapper. In earlier years he had run a salvage yard and until the past several years had operated a flea market along highway 61 south of Wayland. He loved to buy, sell and trade, particularly guns and cars. He believed in helping others and spent many hours donating his equipment and time to cooking fish and chicken for various benefits around the area. He belonged to the Missouri and the National Trapper's Associations and Furtakers of America. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to country music. He enjoyed his friends and family and spending time with them. He was especially close to his daughters and their families and was very proud of their accomplishments.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson Funeral

Home in Kahoka with burial following in Sand Cemetery at St. Francisville.

Friends can call after 9 a.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Missouri Trapper's Association.
