JOHN W. MAYER

John Wayne Mayer, age 72, of Kahoka, MO, died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka where he had been a resident since May.

John was born July 9, 1939 in Clark Co., MO, a son of Joseph and Margaret Spiker Mayer and was raised by his mother and step-father, Doug Rankin.

He was first married to Nadine Page and they were the parents of three children, Terry, Rick and Sherry. He later married Kathy Rasor and they were the parents of Cameron.

Survivors include his children: Terry (Vicki) Mayer of Pinehurst, NC, Rick Mayer of Marietta, CA, Sherry (Mrs. Scott) Burnett of Keokuk, IA and Cameron Mayer of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Harold Butch Mayer of Kahoka, MO; a sister, Josie Cantrell of Antioch, CA; step-mother, Katie Rankin of Kahoka, MO; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;also several nieces and nephews as well as other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mayer; his mother, Margaret Marge Rankin; and step-father, Doug Rankin.

Most of Johns was spent in Tucson, AZ where he was employed in the construction business. He returned to Clark County in the early 1990's as his mothers health failed. He worked for the City of Kahoka in the light plant until his retirement. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the V.F.W.

At his request, his body has been donated for medical research. There will be no visitation or services at this time but a memorial service will be held at a later date.
