Sylvia "Kathleen" Horton

Sylvia (Kathleen) Horton, 88, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away at 12:39pm, on Monday, January 6, 2025, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.

She was born May 16, 1936, in Maryville, MO located in Clark Co, MO. The daughter of Reabern Smith and Gertrude Pearl (England) Gregory. On January 22, 1955, she was united in marriage to Jack Thomas Horton in Memphis, MO., and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1987.

Kathleen attended Kahoka High School. After the death of her husband, Jack, she attended Southeastern Iowa Community College and received her AA degree. Kathleen was the Head Librarian at Seaver Library for 8 years, a secretary for L & W Quarry and Ideal Sand Quarry in Wayland, MO., for 6 years, until she retired. Kathleen was a housewife for 32 years. She and Jack always put in a big garden. They worked very hard making sure the fruit and vegetables were processed and canned for the family to eat. 

Kathleen was very strong about her home being respectful, she did not allow cussing, and your hat came off when you entered her home and placed on top of the frig. She was also sharp about certain things. When Greg and Janie told her in October they were expecting in May, she informed them it was going to be a boy and would be born on her birthday. She was right, Ethan and Grandma Horton shared a birthday. Kathleen liked to travel and was an Elvis fan. Kathleen looked forward to family get togethers and loved her family very much.

Kathleen is survived by her children: Robert Dean (Joanne) Horton of Oregon, Gregory Allen (Janie) Horton of Kahoka, MO., Douglas Dale (Lisa) Horton of Luray, MO., 10 grandchildren: Matthew (Nichole) Horton, Daniel Horton, Timothy Horton, Cristie Horton, Mikele (Christina) Farmer, Melissa (Jason) Schutte, Krista Little, Ethan (Morgan) Horton, Andy Horton, Jason Horton, 17 great grandchildren: Tre Morris, McKenzie Horton, Lane Horton, Danielle Horton, Chasity Horton, Josiah Horton, Brayden Farmer, Landen Farmer, Jamison Farmer, Victoria Schutte, Dylan Schutte, Emma Little, Cody Little, Jr., River Shannon, MaKennah Horton, Jackson Horton, Carter Horton and another great grandchild due in March, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, a daughter: Debra Farmer in 2020, a son: David Gregory, a great grandson: Ryker Horton, brothers: Harold Gregory, Albert Gregory and a sister: Hazel LeMaster.

Graveside services for Kathleen Horton will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Revere Cemetery, Revere, MO. Pastor Dan Deatrick will officiate. Memorial contributions in memory of Kathleen Horton are suggested to the H.E. Sever Memorial Library or Revere Cemetery, and may be left at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO.
