Kent Leon Leeper, 70, of Wayland, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at 11:40pm.
He was born on August 25, 1951, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of the late Richard Stewart and Bonnie Jean (Smith) Leeper. He married Cindy Lou Stoneking on April 7, 1990, in Wayland and together they share five children.
Kent was a self-taught prodigy with anything technological or computer related. A quiet man, Kent rarely referred to his unique gift of understanding complex issues and problem-solving skills. Many who knew Kent never knew they were in the presence of a truly remarkable mind. If Kent wanted to learn about something, he studied it, understood it, and would quickly master it. He was passionate about a wide range of interests, from photography to woodworking and carving, to flying his drones, both outside, and (much to the surprise of his wife, Cindy), inside of his home. A community minded man, Kent was also a much-respected member of the Wayland Volunteer Fire Department. His creativity, kindness, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know him.
Kent leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Cindy Leeper; sons Gregory James (Vickie) Leeper of Keokuk, Iowa, and Randy James Leeper, also of Keokuk; daughters Jennifer Renee Ludwig of Keokuk, Sherry (Ken) Slominski of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tammy McCarty, of Wayland, Missouri; grandchildren, Shaide (Rick Stoermer) Leeper, Cole Leeper, Dalton McCarty, Amanda (Mike) Calis, Erika (Paul) Jenness, Kenny (Ellie) Slominski, Sarah (Corbin Murrow) Slominski; and great-grandchildren, Brayden Farrel, and Aubrie Farrel; sisters Nancy Perrine of Quincy, Illinois, and Sherry (Jeff) Pulliam of Keokuk, Iowa.
In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Brent Perrine.
Funeral services for Kent were held at 10:00am on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka. Burial followed at the Kahoka Cemetery. Pastor Dan Deatrick officiated. A visitation was held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home.
