Liberty Halene (Moffitt) Taylor, age 88, died peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Kerns in Oak Point, Texas on Thursday evening, July 19, 2007.

Halene was born on 17 February 1919 in Bucklin, Missouri, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Arthurinna Eina (Borron) Moffitt.

On 5 August 1940 she married Ivan Lee Taylor in Chillicothe, Missouri. They remained devoted husband and wife until Ivan's death in 1996.

Halene attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958. She became a teacher and devoted her life to educating the young and inspiring them to pursue their dreams and ambitions. She had an intense interest in current events and politics and read extensively which served her well in her teaching career.

Halene was a person of many talents and abilities. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a familiar sight in the church choir. She also played the French Horn in the High School band and was an extremely talented basketball player being offered an opportunity to play professionally. In addition, she was a talented artist and enjoyed painting pictures including scenery and portraits many of which she gave to family and friends.

After Ivan's death, she came to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Texas. She had a great love for all and was always there with a kind word and a helping hand and was greatly loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

Halene was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Lee Taylor, and her oldest daughter, Georgia Rose Taylor. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Lea Kerns of Oak Point, Texas and Zelma Carole Taylor of Anchorage, Alaska. She also leaves 4 grandsons, Timothy and Bryan Kerns of Texas and Robert Dokken and John Parker Wilson III of Alaska.

Funeral services wereheld Thursday, July 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested to Chapter AW, P.E.O. or Solaris Hospice, Decateur, TX.
