Lois McKee

Lois J. McKee, age 79, of Kahoka, MO, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 in St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Lois was born April 13, 1933 at Kirksville, MO, a daughter of Loyd and Melba Brereton Sinele. She lived in Gibbs, MO, on a farm, the first 15 years of her life. Lois graduated from Kirksville High School in 1951.

She married Lewis W. Ogle October 16, 1953. Lois finished her degree in education from NEMO State Teacher's College in Kirksville in 1955. They were the parents of three children, Kevin, Susan and Loyd. They divorced in 1973. Lois married G. Neill McKee on May 9, 1981.

Survivors include her husband, G. Neill McKee of Kahoka, MO; two sons, Kevin Ogle and his wife, Carol Ann Siciliano of Falls Church, VA, Loyd Ogle and fiancé Karolina Sajnova of Des Moines, IA; one daughter, Susan M. (Mrs. M. Jan) Harris of Hamburg, IA; three step-sons, John E. (Amy) McKee of Mackinaw, IL, Tony N. (Tara) McKee of Kahoka, MO, and Matthew W. (Tina) McKee of Memphis, MO; a step-daughter, Sarah McKee of Colchester, IL; sixteen grandchildren: Nathaniel and Jeremiah Ogle, Grant (Cara) Harris, Richard and Claire Harris, Ariel and Connor McKee, Colin and Karcyn McKee, James, Justin, Meghan, Jackson and Marshall McKee, Jessamie Cameron and Tia Rowland; one great grandchild, Boston Harris; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Rosemary and Bob Allen of Kansas City, MO, James and Dorothy Ogle of Sugar Grove, IL, Rose and Dr. Fred Rollins of Muskegon, MI and Philip and Kathy Ogle of Cheyenne, WY; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lynn Sinele and first husband Lewis Ogle.

Lois taught at Prairie View Rural School in Millard, MO following graduation from college. She began her Keokuk, IA teacher career at St. Vincent's Catholic elementary school, followed by becoming a Title I reading teacher at Wells Cary, retiring in 2000.

Lois was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA for 42 years. Actively participating through the years, she most recently taught an adult Sunday school class. Gathering together monthly with her retired teacher friends was a "save the date" priority.

She was a great philanthropist and supporter of many local and national organizations and causes. Giving freely of time and talents was also very important to her. Lois found great pleasure in the natural wildlife God created. She believed in taking care of the land and became an active recycler, pressing upon those around her to do the same.

Lois had varied interests. She was an avid Scrabble player and Bridge enthusiast. She cherished her years of bowling. She loved music, particularly Neil Diamond, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Reba McEntire and Shania Twain. She and Neill enjoyed traveling internationally, with fellow pharmacists, on trips made possible through suppliers. Traveling with her friends to Branson and other places in the United States were relished get-a-ways. She and Neill created their own vineyard and winery and donated sales to the local Relay for Life teams. Together they visited many wineries in the tri-state area. She was also a faithful St. Louis Rams fan, gaining knowledge of the game and players to the surprise of many. She loved to attend games and share tickets with friends. She relished the time spent at their lake home in Unionville, MO with family and friends.

Her greatest love was her grandchildren. She spent many hours traveling between Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Virginia to take in their activities. Her relationships with family and friends were her greatest earthly value.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA with Rev. David Turner officiating.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church for the Newton Church Camp, Clark Co. Veteran's Memorial, or H. E. Sever Memorial Library.
