LOIS L. TOOPS

Lois L. Toops, age 81, of Burlington, IA, formerly of Kahoka, MO, died Wednesday,May 25, 2005 at Klein Center in Burlington, IA.

She was born July 1, 1923 at Truro, IA, a daughter of Alonzo and Lillian Malquist Gracey.

She married Warren G. Harding Toops on October 19, 1946 at the Methodist Parsonage in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1990.

Survivors include three sons: Dennis W. Toops and his wife, Betty, of Sunrise Beach, MO, David H. Toops and his wife, Laura, of Melbourne, FL, and Howard E. Toops and his wife, Pati, of Burlington, IA; five grandchildren: Amanda and her husband, Col. Evan Hoapili, of Cheyenne, WY, Justin Toops of Brunswick, ME, Nathan Toops of Burlington, IA, and Kimberly and Erik Toops of Melbourne, FL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: George Toops of Park Rapids, MN, Paul and Eleanor Toops of Kerrville, TX, Wilma Arms of Waterloo IA, and Dorothy Toops of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers: Eugene, George, Foss, and John Gracey; and a half sister, Lucille Stone.

Lois graduated from Truro High School in Truro, IA where she was a member of the state-ranked basketball team. She moved to Kahoka following her marriage and was a homemaker. She and her husband also operated Toops "66" Service in Kahoka for many years.

Lois was a long-time member of the Kahoka United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and American Legion Auxillary. She had volunteered many hours at the Clark County Senior Center as long as her health permitted. She was an avid sports fan, particularly of the St. Louis Cardinals. She enjoyed bowling, walking, and roller skating.

Graveside services are Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Kahoka Cemetery with Rev. Deborah Schmidt officiating.

Friends can call after 9 a.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Clark Co. Senior Center.
