LORAINE M. HOPKINS
Loraine Margaret Hopkins, age 89, of rural Williamstown, MO, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014, at her home.
Loraine was born July 27, 1925 at Lyons, NE, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret Ann Buckley Gunn.
She attended school in Carthage, IL where she spent most of her childhood.
She was united in marriage to George Earl Hopkins on June 17, 1950 in Carthage. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2000.
Survivors include her children: Gail (Beth) Hopkins of Kahoka, John (Pam) Hopkins of Quincy, Kent Hopkins of Columbia, Mary Kirchner of Canton, Paul (Amy) Hopkins of Canton, and Rita Hopkins of Alexandria; a daughter-in-law, Marge "Annie" Hopkins of Corydon, IA; brother-in-law, Bill (Marge) Hopkins of Carrollton, IL; eight grandchildren: Mary (Mike) Salyers, Wade Huston, Emily, Andrea and Elise Hopkins, Sara Kirchner, Nicole Dittmer and Shawn (Lauren) Dittmer; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews;and her dog Mitzi, her faithful companion for the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Earl George Hopkins on July 8, 2014; daughter-in-law, Glenda Hopkins; a sister, Evelyn Markey; and two brothers, Phillip Gunn and Everett "Red" Gunn.
Loraine spent the majority of her life as a housewife and farm wife. She loved cats and chickens and had a large hen and rooster collection which she displayed proudly in her home. She was very content in her life and happy to stay home, sit outside, and enjoy nature and all the beauty surrounding her. She had a strong will to live and was a very determined person which saved her life when she took a fall outside in 2009. Loraine's family was very dear to her and time spent with them was precious and cherished.
At her request, she was cremated. There will be no services, however, family will greet friends Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Memorials are suggested to the Williamstown Park and Recreation, Inc. or the Providence Cemetery.
