Lula Belle Laffoon

Lula Belle Laffoon, 97, of Kahoka and formerly of Wayland, passed away peacefully at 8:44 am on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

 

She was born on April 28, 1925, in Iuka, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Albert & Mellie (Wood) McClellan. Lula Belle married Robert A. Laffoon on January 31, 1943, in Yellville, Arkansas and he preceded her in death on November 1, 2001.

 

One of Lula Belle’s greatest joys came in the form of dolls. She loved to create different porcelain dolls, making many different outfits and accessories for them. She and Betty Salyers would attend doll shows on a regular basis. Lula Belle was also a very skilled seamstress; she had made prom and wedding dresses for many ladies over the years. Crocheting was also one of Lula Belle’s hobbies. Her faith in Christ was very strong and important to her all throughout her life. Lula Belle loved her family and looked forward to visiting and spending time with them.

 

Lula Belle is survived by her daughters; Gretchen (David) Myers of Braymer, and Sara Kathleen Buschling of Wayland, a son; Andrew Robert “Bud” (Beverly) Laffoon of Wayland, nine grandchildren; LaShelle “Shelly” (Jeff) Young of Blue Springs, Heidi Laffoon of Columbia, Lindsey (Tom) Jones of North Liberty, Iowa, Brock (Shelby) Buschling of Kahoka, Nikolas Buschling of Wayland, Sara (Mike) Smith of Revere, Brandon Lewis of Burlington, Iowa, Ryan Lewis of Kahoka and Megan (Brandon) Parsons of Dearborn, Michigan, eleven great grandchildren; Tyler (Stephanie) Kaufman, Trenton (Deondra) Hauk, Alyssa Hauk, Mallory Jones, Kinley Jones, Kaytelenn Buschling, Avery Smith, Rylea Lewis, Amarah Lewis, Jude Parsons, Harlow Parsons, two great-great grandchildren; Trysten & Taryn Hauk, two step great-great grandchildren; Tayten Smith & Trinity LaBonte, a sister; Bobbi Rush of Batesville, Arkansas, a brother; Gary McClellan of Mountain Home, Arkansas, a brother & sister in-law; Leonard & Betty Laffoon of Milan, Illinois,  sisters in-law; Deloris Laffoon of Kahoka, Mekey Laffoon of Lebanon and by many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Lula Belle was preceded in death by a daughter; Lettye Elizabeth “Beth” Lewis, a son in-law; Fred Buschling, a grandson; Sean Myers, a great granddaughter; Lexie Smith, brothers; Johnny & Vernon McClellan, a sister; Thelma Whitecotton, brothers in-law; Howard Laffoon, Gene Laffoon, Zelph Rush & Fred Whitecotton, a sisters in-law; Kay McClellan and Paula McClellan.

 

Funeral services honoring Lula Belle’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the United Methodist Church of Wayland. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sand Cemetery in Saint Francisville. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of services at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Lula Belle are suggested to the Sand Cemetery. The Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home of Kahoka has been entrusted with the care and arrangements.
