MADELINE FAIRCHILD BAKER

Madeline Fairchild Baker, age 84 of Quincy, IL, formerly of Kahoka, MO and Vacaville, CA, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

She was born in Rutledge, MO, on March 29, 1920, a daughter of Dexter M. and Anna Hendricks Francis.

She was preceded in death by three husbands. She first married John Fairchild in Granger, MO on July 17, 1938. She later married Garland Lucas in San Diego, CA, and following his death married Paul Baker of Arbela, MO.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay, and son-in-law, Maurice Knueppel of Taylor, MO;

a step-son, Jim Baker and his wife, Gwenn, of West Burlington, IA; a step-daughter, Lila Jameson and her husband, Fred, of West Caldwell, NJ; grandchildren: Dawn Shirar of Martinez, CA, Debra Fairchild of Norman, OK, Mark Herring of Vacaville, CA, Duane Knueppel and his wife, Lori, of Quincy, IL, and Jerry Shirar of Vacaville, CA; great-grandchildren, Dan Shirar of San Diego, CA, and Ryan and Mitch Prusinski of Norman, OK; six step- grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one daughter, Ann Francis; three sisters, Marion Price, Maxine Walker and Nellie Watkins; and a brother, William Francis.

Madeline was a graduate of Luray High School. She lived in Missouri until 1960 when she moved to California. While in California, she was a volunteer worker for the Yellow Brick Road and helped her daughter, Ann, with Mark's Growing Center for the handicapped in Vacaville. When her health began to fail, she moved to Quincy to be near her daughter, Kay. Madeline was a member of the Christian Church in Vacaville, CA and after moving to Quincy, attended Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Taylor when her health permitted.

Funeral services are Monday, April 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Michael Mann officiating. Burial will be in South Bethel Cemetery in rural Scotland County, MO. Friends can call after 9 a.m. on Monday with family receiving friends one hour prior to services.
