MAE RAMSEY

Mae E. Ramsey, age 94, of Kahoka, MO, went to heaven on Friday, September 23, 2016 while a patient at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Mae was born May 14, 1922 at Mozart, AR, a daughter of Rankin and Pearl E. Lee McKee.

She was united in marriage to Homer Ramsey on September 25, 1937 in Blythsville, AR, at the age of 15, not unusual at that time. They were the parents of eight children, each one cherished as much as the other.

Survivors include seven children: Bill (Janet) Ramsey, Linda (Darrell) Davis, and Judy (Harlan) Gamber, all of Kahoka, Carolyn (Greg) Canida of Leslie, AR, Betty (Greg) Starman of Mendon, IL, and Brenda (Darrel) Dean, Dan Ramsey (Dena Lestina), all of Kahoka; grandchildren: Tony (Tammy) Ramsey, Gary Ramsey, Michael Davis (Lana Kirchner), all of Kahoka, Dr. Eric (Shea) Davis of Farmington, MO, Elizabeth (Bryan) Johnson, Dena (Wayne) Marple and Rhonda (Curtis) Washburn, all of Keokuk, Mark (Carol) Waterman of Burlington, Michelle (Doug) English of Kahoka, Christina (Nick) Patterson of Nappanee, IN, Joshua Canida (Jaime Sprague) of Leslie, AR, Melanie (Sean) Kelly of Alexandria, Monica Wilson of Kahoka, Cody Starman of Quincy, Brandon Rainbolt of Kahoka, Natasha (Greg) Trame of Rochester, IL, Zachary Denham (Amy Elston) of Kahoka, and Kayla Ramsey of Weehawken, NJ; 39 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; as well as other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer, on September 9, 2000; an infant daughter, Nola Mae; and 9 siblings.

Mae was raised on a mountain in Arkansas by hardworking and loving parents who taught Mae the importance of faith and trusting in God. Life wasn't easy there and whatever you needed generally came from lots of labor and faith. She loved planting and caring for her garden and house plants and enjoyed watching them grow. She lovingly stitched many quilts and crochet items and her family and friends were blessed to be recipients. Each new baby would receive either a Farmer Brown or Suzy Bonnet quilt from Grandma Mae.

Mae and Homer moved to Missouri in 1952. She babysat for her grandchildren and many other children in Kahoka through the years, all of whom say that having her for a babysitter was a blessing in their lives. She always had something cooking just in case someone was hungry and thrived on taking care of others. As a mother and babysitter, she was strict, but had a wonderful sense of humor.

Mae had a strong faith and always made sure her children were in church and well behaved. Faith and family were two words very important to her. She sang and praised God through gospel hymns everyday no matter what she was doing or working on. The life she lived and her beautiful smile will be forever a part of those who knew her. She was loved by so many.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Glen Yoder officiating.
