Mary Burkhart

Mary Darlos Burkhart, age 73, of Kahoka, MO, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA.

She was born on April 11, 1940, in Fountain Green, Illinois, a daughter of Willis and Louise Bright Wear.

She married Wayne Burkhart on September 1, 1956, at the Christian Church in LaHarpe, IL.

Darlos married a farmer and worked in the fields and with the livestock all her married life even though she had been a city girl. She had four children and was a 4H Leader and was active with them in their projects. She had worked at the Ammunition Plant at Burlington, IA. Also, she worked in the kitchen at the Scotland County Nursing Home for five years. But her main love was working beside her husband and driving that combine or tractor.

She was an avid gardener and had done a lot of canning and preserving food through the years. She loved to quilt in her spare time. Another love was her yard and flowers, and in her younger days, she loved to hunt mushrooms.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne Burkhart; two sons, Mike Burkhart and his wife, Mary Ann, of Kahoka, MO, Rick Burkhart and his wife, Nancy, of Manooka, IL; two daughters, Tina Karasiewicz of Flanders, NJ, and Cynthia Burkhart of Kahoka, MO; thirteen grandchildren-
Jeremy Burkhart and fiancé, Robin Schlatter of Kahoka, Michael (Christina) Farmer of Revere, Jackie (Mrs. Jarod) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary Sabrina Lynn Burkhart of Kahoka and Scott Burkhart of Kahoka, Angie (Mrs Julian) Paluch, Michelle (Mrs. T.J.) McCristy, Ricky Burkhart and Kristofor Burkhart, all of Kankakee, IL, Kyle and Kayla Karasiewicz of Flanders, NJ, Kegan Burkhart and fiancé Haylee Smith of Columbia, MO, and Noah Burkhart of Kahoka; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Sullivan of Macomb, IL and Wanda (Mrs. Richard) Mustard of Liberty, MO; brothers-in-law: Eugene (Pat) Burkhart of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jim (Dayle) Burkhart of TX; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Jim Burkhart officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.
