MARY DARLENE SCHMID
Mary "Darlene" Schmid, age 87, of rural Kahoka, MO, died peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2020 in the Clark County Nursing Home lovingly with family by her side.
She was born July 2, 1933, a daughter of Howard Ernest and Gertrude Morrow Bash.
Darlene graduated from St. Patrick High School, Class of 1951. On June 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Vernon L. Schmid at the Shrine of St. Patrick. To this union two sons were born, Daryl and Brian. Vernon preceded her in death on April 10, 2009.
Survivors include her two sons, Daryl Schmid of Kahoka, MO and Brian Schmid of Hannibal, MO; two granddaughters, Shiloh (Michael) Kun of Columbia, MO and Shannon (Paul) Clark of Columbia, MO; one great-granddaughter, Paige Olivia Clark; one sister, Wilma Day of Keokuk, IA; one sister-in-law, Opal Moore of Covington, TX; also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, William "Bill" Bash; three sisters-in-law: Anna Rose Roberts, Marie Walker and Mary Shores; and two nephews, Adam Bash and Matt Moore.
Darlene graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. She worked at Sinton Transfer in Keokuk, IA, Exchange Bank of Kahoka, Shellor Globe in Keokuk, IA and the Burlington Ordinance Plant. She spent her remaining years working on the family farm that was established in 1956. Darlene was a devoted member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, and remained active until her health started to decline.
Darlene had a passion for baking, especially pies and cookies. Her baking was not only enjoyed by friends and family, but also by all who frequented the Farmer’s Market which she attended for many years. She loved baking her regular customers’ favorites and socializing with all who came to see her.
She also enjoyed gardening, playing Scrabble and card games, and just being with her family on the farm. Her sons and her granddaughters were her pride and joy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kahoka with Father Rob Fields, officiant.
Burial will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. on Sunday with a Christian Prayer Service beginning at 4 p.m. followed by family receiving friends until 6 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Clark County Nutrition Site or the Clark County Nursing Home Activity Fund.
