MICHAEL D. SHAW, SR.
Michael David Shaw, Sr., age 60, of Kahoka, MO, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 8, 2007, in the emergency room of Keokuk Area Hospital.
He was born December 25, 1946, at Burlington, North Carolina, the son of Oveta Riggins and was later adopted by the Ralph Shaw family.
On May 21, 1982, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Gardner Yates.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne, of Kahoka; several sons including Michael D. Shaw, Jr. and his wife, Evette, of Fort Madison, IA; two step sons, Kenneth Yates and Kevin Yates and his wife, Terrisa, all of Revere, MO; three step daughters: Sheila Hamm of Kahoka, MO, Pam Broomhall and her husband, Terry, and Gina Wagner, all of Keokuk, IA; one brother, Terry Riggins and his wife, Martha, of Burlington, NC; a sister, Sherry Daggs and her husband, Jerry, of Ewing, MO; several half brothers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Delora Gardner and
Dorthea and Raymond Mathias, all of Kahoka, MO, Marilyn and Everett Boice of Neosho, MO, Willa and Herb Doty of Revere, MO, Bill and Paula Gardner of Jacksonville, FL, and Sharon and Dennis Bergman of Kahoka, MO; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother; and several half brothers.
Mike graduated from high school in Burlington, NC and attended college for two years.
He was a U. S Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam conflict. He drove a semi for over 30 years and until retiring in 1994, was employed by CFI in Joplin, MO. He and Joanne attended the Peaksville Christian Church as long as their health permitted.
Mike was a collector. He enjoyed assembling model cars and some of his collections included knives, swords, and Indian artifacts. He enjoyed people and telling stories. He loved his kids and grandkids and the word "step" was not in his vocabulary. He never knew a stranger.
A private memorial service was held on October 21, 2007. There was no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the family or to the Peaksville Christian Church.
