Nelma L. Goodale

Nelma Louise Goodale, 83, of Kahoka, passed away at 11:18 am on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

She was born on November 10, 1939, in Alexandria, the daughter of the late John Albert & Pearl Louise (Evermon) Gregory. Nelma graduated from Kahoka High School in 1958. She married Robert Bash and later married Melvin Goodale on February 22, 1974, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2015.

Nelma worked for many years for Sheller Globe in Keokuk, Iowa. She retired in 2001. Nelma loved watching the birds feed outside of her window, especially hummingbirds. Nelma also enjoyed flowers and gardens and she liked to crochet. Spending time with her family and grandchildren was the highlight of her life.

She is survived by her son; Duane Edward (Lisa) Bash of Moberly, a step daughter; Linda Hakala of Colorado, four grandchildren; Samantha (Tyreik) Beasley of Burlington, Iowa, Shawn Bash of Moberly, Travis (Kelsey) Bash of Belton and Matthew Stewart of Kahoka, seven great grandchildren; Kindric, Jayvin, Aava, Baylynt, Emry, Colton and Caleb, a brother; Melvin (Sandi) Gregory of Atalissa, Iowa, a sister in-law; Joanne Gregory and by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Nelma was preceded in death by a daughter; Annette Louise Hurt and by two brothers; Jim & Marvin Gregory.

Funeral services honoring Nelma’s life will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home in Kahoka. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate. Interment will follow at the Kahoka City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services on Saturday.
