Patty Jean Woods, Kahoka, MO
March 15, 1929 – May 30, 2022
Patty Jean Woods, 93, of Kahoka, MO, passed away peacefully at 10:30 am on Monday, May 30, 2022, with her family by her side.
Patty was born at the family home in Chambersburg, MO to Forrest L. Kerr and Beatrice S. Morrison Kerr. Later in life Patty would realize a dream she had of renovating the home she was born in. It still stands today thanks to the love and care she and Boyd poured into the renovation.
Patty grew up in rural Clark County, Missouri and graduated from Kahoka High in 1946. From her time as a youth until recently, she loved to sing, especially with her sister Ila Mae. They would often share that talent with the neighboring communities.
A lifelong member of Anson Community Church, Patty served the Lord with her many talents there. Often called on to sing specials, she also aided in the organization and execution of years of successful Fall Suppers and funeral luncheons. She spoke often of the fond memories of children’s programs and activities throughout the years. Patty worked at Sheaffer Pen until her marriage to Dallas Harness in 1949. They later divorced.
During the years when Patty raised her family, she perfected many skills such as gardening, canning, yard work, and taking care of her flowers. Her fondest hobby, however, was sewing and embroidery. She gifted over 200 embroidered dishtowels to family and friends.
Patty also worked at the Clark County Nursing Home where she thoroughly enjoyed the residents.
In 1975 she married Boyd Woods in the Anson Community Church and they worked side by side for 45 years. They lived in rural Donnellson, IA until 1978 when they partnered in business with Patty’s sister and Boyd’s brother at Lee’s Motel and Restaurant in Donnellson.
In 1982 they moved to Kahoka and purchased a restaurant, known as Woods Restaurant, where they worked until their retirement in 1993.
In 1983 Patty and Boyd purchased the farm at Chambersburg, MO, where she was born. Together they restored and remodeled the old brick house. They hosted many family dinners and reunions and gave many tours of their home. Patty and Boyd cherished their extended family as one big family.
Patty loved to cook for her family with their favorites being fried chicken, homemade noodles, butter horn rolls, and sticky buns. Patty and Boyd both enjoyed traveling and spent several winters in South Texas. She was also a member of the Tuesday Club and fond of helping anyone in any way she could.
The great grandchildren were incredibly special to Patty and she was so excited to become a great great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Boyd, brothers Hollis, Hillis, and Stuart Kerr, sister Ila Mae Threat, sister in law Joan Kerr, and son in law Mike Saltzgaver.
